I almost got another referal for arguing with a teacher today...

read this poem: Diversity... A Zombie Poem

The thing with no face
Walked alone in the street
Searching and searching
For someone to eat

He wasn't that picky
Anyone would do
White, black, or asian
Hispanic, or Jew

He believed in the innate
Equality of men
Because they all tasted the same
Tall, short, fat, or thin

So he looked and he looked
And he searched through the day
For any good victim
Bi, straight, or gay

After hours of shambling
And stumbling around
He stood on a cliff
Moaning at the ground

No food existed
No one left alive
He'd eaten them all
Not one had survived

Now. Did you find that poem offensive in any way, shape, or form? I was reading this poem to the class because it was our homework, and halfway through she yelled YOURE THROUGH and told me to sit down. I read her notes and they said "NOT APPROPRIATE". Are you shitting me? Some guy went up there and read an Edgar Allen Poe poem about him decapitating his wife and burning his cat alive, but MY poem was just too offensive to be heard all the way through? Being in TEXAS, my theory is she wasn't paying attention and heard the word 'gay' and immediately got offended. **** you.

Seriously, what do all these school officials have against me?

do you have like bad grades in classes or somthing because it looks to me that your teacher and your bus driver really must have somthing bad against you. Beause my stupid friend Oscar brought a laser pointer to school once,  and he was pointing it around in the class and at people and he only got it taken away. Then he just had to flip his card witch was only a warning. So i am guessing that your teachers must really hate you. And btw today he brought 80 bucks to school and he almost got it all taken away the the teacher and that really would of sucked beacuse he wanted to buy an ipod nano with that money. btw nice poem :) lol

I do believe you are not alone Cae, http://rawstory.com/showoutarticle.php?src=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F2007%2FUS%2F04%2F27%2Fstudent.essay.arrest.ap%2Findex.html%3Feref%3Dyahoo

Lee, 18, faces two disorderly conduct charges over the creative-writing assignment, which he was given on Monday in English class at the northern Illinois school.
Students were told to "write whatever comes to your mind. Do not judge or censor what you are writing," according to a copy of the assignment.
...
Officials described the essay as disturbing and inappropriate.
Lee said he was just following the directions.

There's a bit of graphic content in the article, for those that might be adverse to such things.

On another note, this is a prime example of how us "adults" seem to be scared to death of "children" these days.

In some school personnel's minds, having a huge wad of cash in your pocket means you are probably going to either show it off and get mugged, or are dealing drugs.  There are other possibilities, but most of them pretty much have the school people being paranoid about why a "kid" would have that much money (though I'm wondering if your friend isn't a whole lot stupid, waving around eighty bucks in public) when all they are "suppose" to be doing is be at school.

1. Re school essay: convicted of what and for what? How can the courts be involved over something someone wrote in an essay?
2. Re $80 - maybe the teacher was just going to take it into safekeeping until end of school. Otherwise it's just plain theft.

Well as far as the essay is concerned, in the last ten or so years the US has seen quite a few school massacres.  There has been a whole lot of pressure to try to figure out if there isn't some kind of "warning signs" or "test" that can determine if a student is going to come to school one day with a machine gun and some pipe bombs and start killing people.  Hence the knee jerk reaction by the administrators to instantly step all over the kid (probably more from irrational fear of "possible" violence rather than an actual threat posed by the kid) because the kid's writing is being viewed as a "warning sign."

So, if the school faculty feels threatened by the writing, that would be "assault."  Regardless of whether the kid was intending violence or not.  Federal agencies (ATF and probably the FBI) would be involved because school violence tends to fall under the category of "terrorism" and since the USAPATRIOT act is still in full force in the US the kid (who is probably no considered a "terrorist" by the "authorities") has even less rights than a kid normally has in this country.

Sad. Even more glad I live in the UK (though we are on the way downhill, it seems).

That "no" typo - I guess was meant to be "now" rather than "not"?

Teacher: I'm giving you an "E" for your essay.
Theo: WHAT?!?! After three weeks of redrafting you're giving me a f**king "E"?
Teacher: I think i'm being perfectly fair.
Theo: I think you're tighter than a crab's arsehole.

This preceeded three weeks suspension. I don't regret it to this day

HAH...

After Columbine happened my High School decided to ban backpacks.  I kept bringing mine (as I had lots of large school books).  The principal noticed me putting my backpack in my locker and when I was in class came in to tell me to go and open my locker.  As the public school is government property and as far as I am aware of the "law" a school locker is not my property and the school doesn't need my permission to open it, I refused to go outside and open my locker.

He after about the fourth or fifth time he came into class and threatened to call the police I finally got tired of him dissrupting class and opened my locker. (yeah, yeah, I caved.  But I accidently did a really good job of making him look utterly useless as a principal to the rest of the students in my class)

Not anywhere near as gratifiying as you telling your teach off, but I had fun.
