I agree with you both, see its such a hard call, and I'm trying to argue for keeping the OT because I believe it makes life easier for the moderators.

The problem is that things worked great before the OT with only occasional mishaps.

I feel that, dispite my earlier statements, the OT takes power 'away' from you moderators. Because you now have to make a decision on most things off topic getting deleted, which is harder to do and has more of a comeback on you (hense this thread).

Before you only deleted the drivel, the trash, the garbage that everyone agreed was drivel, trash and garbage. But now you're bundling a whole lot of potentially, or arguably good stuff into the same pile, which is where I stepped in with my size 14's.

I see Smacky's point with 'I wish I hadn't bothered'. And I see Longir's point with 'we could just be neo-nazi's and kick ass but we bend over backwards for you sorry little ingrates anyway'.

I like your suggestion Ell, but unfortunately it would make a whole lot more work for the forum moderators.

How about two off topic forums, one where threads can't be created, don't get deleted, but can be moved to for viewing and replying, and the other for auto deletion? this way you could keep almost anything that was at least considered decent... Yes this would cause a little controversy at some time or another but it is not a bad way of keeping off topic material in an off topic area..

Yes I think I like that suggestion..

I should really learn to preview my longer posts before hitting submitt, then I could keep a check for someone beating me to the reply...

On that subject I apologise for the double post (if in fact it turns out to be one, and I don't get beat to the punch again).

Well Smacky you're right, I should probably stop complaining, but I'm not in anyway being attacking. Although I usually start my threads with an attacking nature, I usually quickly abandon that in search of the solution, so please stop being defensive. I just find this the best way to get positive response in the long run ;)

I really am trying along with you to find the best way to deal with this OT situation I assure you.

:) NP at all. As has already been said in this thread with varying degrees of humour I tend to argue in much the same way and probably for similar reasons. I don't like apathy. A reaction is better than no reaction. A considered thought is better than a reaction but we have to start somewhere. :)

You probably have as good an idea of my 'grand plan' as I do now, so yes, post constuctive ideas on that by all means but remember that it's not always technically possible to do everything perfectly right away.

The two forum idea is on the one hand a reasonable solution, but OTH it dooesn't address the last post/search issue at, in fact makes it twice as bad, would result in even more anti-mod complaining ('why wasnt my thread moved to the 'keep' pile? Fascists! Quickly, I must post a poll asking if the game would be better off without me'), and of course does not help towards the ultimate goal (well, my ultimate goal, I'm assuming MT and others aren't reading this in utter horror ;)) of a community-not-moderator driven forum.
