Well, here we go. Instead updating our old site monster i decided to migrate to smf. In the years SMF generated alot nice mods which give SMF the power to do what drupal did for us in the past. So we go for smf now with 50 (!) mods installed

Took some time and a bit fixing to make it work but the result is great. SMF is really not easy to mod because the code is hard patched but the other side effect is SMF is then not hidden by the usual performance traps like collecting hooks and plugins and all. People underestimate the performance lose of drupal or other CMS when they had some addons installed.

On this server we use nginx + php 5.5 and another cache beside the now build in opcode cache from php 5.5 - that brings the speed. And the fact this server is a xeon 1245v2.

There are still some glitches to fix, so please report things which did not works like 40x links from the normal site interface, buttons which return to the homepage or did not work and so on.

At all this site is very, very bug free out of the box. I had with the old an alot harder time.
Also the maintaning was a mess.

This new site is full of "hidden" gimmicks and helpers. Try to klick or hover the buttons and small icons.
Hopefully we will ad more help icons to explain how it works.
