Ok, I downloaded the latest MM 20090906 as per MTs instructions somewhere. I moved my maps and arches out of the old MM, and copied the new one over it, then put them back. Makes sense yeah?
I loaded it up, no arches. NP, I can collect arches using the .bat file. That worked earlier, when my old settings were in place ( which brought up a huge error message every time I loaded it ), with the problem that I needed to run the collect arches .bat every time i ran the MM or the arches didn't come up. With this in mind, i figured I'd hit the default settings button on the options panel to see if it'd load the arches up without running the .bat file.
I guess I'll never know. It now refuses to work at all. It opens the black 'shell' window and looks like it's loading up and then promtly closes again. So I'm unable to restore my old settings, not that I can remember what they were anyways, but the brunt of it is, the default settings on the new MM seem to cause it to fail. Any ideas?

Did you ever change your old settings to just use either / or \ as a dir separator, not both?

Anyway, resetting to defaults should have set arch and maps paths to ../arch and ../maps. This will be correct, if you cd to editor before running Gridarta. Which is what w32_start_editor.bat does. So how do you 'load up' the editor? Do you double-click w32_start_editor.bat? :) :) :) Or do you double-click DaimoninEditor.jar? :( :( :(

Double clicked w32_start_editor.bat. Like I say, I'd try and change them back but I can't even get that far :(

EDIT:- Ok I decided to delete the old mapmaker and install the new one. Now I'm getting a whole book of errors on start-up, whichever of the executable files I try. The first one is again the can't find the arches one and it seems to cause the rest. The collect arches .bat gives a similar repsonse. Is there some residual memory from the old mapmaker causing the problem? Has anyone else tried the new version and had problems/no problems? Think I'll try a restart, see if that helps. After that, I'm stumped.

EDIT:- Nope. Still screwed, same errors.

As there's no archive on SourceForge anymore, here's the previous MapMaker package: daimonin_mapmaker-B5_20090822.zip (16,458KB)
Install it in a different directory and copy your customized files (maps/arches/pickmaps) to it.
That way you can still map while figuring out the errors of the new package.

OK, but do not stubbornly refuse to upgrade because IYO the old map maker works and the new one doesn't. If you do, eventually you're maps will become incompatible with B5.

But by all means stick with one that works for you until you figure out what's wrong.

20090926, upgrading from 20090822, is fine on my laptop (Linux). Any other Windows users with a good/bad experience?

Page not found Mizza.

Hell Smacky I'm stubborn, but not that stubborn. Wish it would work, I wanted to finish my spider_nest dungeon today, it's been my day off. It's just frustrating....there's gotta be a way to get it to work.

It won't upload to WFM. Tried 3 times for 30 minutes but nothing seemed to happen.

Brilliant thanks Mizza that's working. At least I can change the options now....i wonder if changing the path on this one, then copying it over the new one, then re-copying the downloaded new one over that would get it owrking? Something to try to morrow I think.

Maybe this helps, my paths in gridarta are like this (using windows):
Archfiles N:\daimonin\daimonin_mapmaker-B5\arch
Maps N:\daimonin\daimonin_mapmaker-B5\maps
Media N:\daimonin\client-0.10.0\media
Server ../server/daimonin_server
Client /N:/daimonin/client-0.10.0/daimonin_start.exe
Editor vim

Brilliant, thanks Clobber. Managed to get the MM up using that technique, with only one problem. I have no arches on the MM. I've changed it from collect from file ( or whatever it is ) so I can manually 'collect arches' and they still don't appear. There's just a space where they should be ( and yes I've tried the little arrows to expand the arches section - they don't do anything ). It's like they're hidden, or haven't loaded for some reason. So I'm gonna have something to eat, then come back to it and check the paths are as Mizza's posted above and see if I can rez the MM :)

Think I've found it. It does appear to be an OS problem, for some reason XP has some strange workings when it comes to paths. It's not updating them, and because this causes a terminal error, you can't change the paths it's looking for. You have to re-name the folders. The fix appears to be loading the MM so the you can read the error message, and naming the relevant folders to match the message. I've made it work....just need to see if the arches are still missing. I'll edit this message in a few mins.

EDIT:- Yay me!  ;D I fixed it! I can't put the exact changes you need to make in here as I went about it the long way in order to find it out, but simply, make sure the number on the end of the mapmaker package ( should be 20090906 i think ) matches because XP remembers the old one, no matter how many times you delete it.

Am starting to see why you guys like Linux.

What is your actual path? There's no reason to have yyyymmdd in there at all.

But anyway please write the exact fix/workaround so I can put it in the README for the next release.

OK I just loaded it up again and remembered it's still giving me error messages, although these are along the lines of :-
"Warning: post_and_rail-door-a references undefined face 'post_and_rail-door-a.111' "
There's 8 of these and are all to do with the folder of new arches I copied into the arches folder. So ignore this little bit for now lols.

So here's what the cmd.exe says :-

Code: [Select]

C:\Documents and Settings\Asa\Desktop\daimonin_mapmaker-B5_20090906\daimonin_map
maker-B5>REM *** this should start the editor **

C:\Documents and Settings\Asa\Desktop\daimonin_mapmaker-B5_20090906\daimonin_map
maker-B5>cd editor

C:\Documents and Settings\Asa\Desktop\daimonin_mapmaker-B5_20090906\daimonin_map
maker-B5\editor>copy DaimoninEditor.jar.tmp DaimoninEditor.jar
The system cannot find the file specified.

Now the path I have isn't going to be correct. In order to get it running ( so I could correct my path ) I had to change the folder name to daimonin_mapmaker-B5_20090906 ( I think it was daimonin_mapmaker-B5_20090922 or something when it downloaded ). So that's what my paths currently are because I couldn't be bothered to change them and the folder name back to 20090922 and risk it all going horribly wrong again ( and also, I didn't see any point ).
Also my arches are currently set to not "load from collection" ( which I believe is not how it's meant to be? ).
