Is there any way that those sentenced to jail time would be spawned in a jail after they have been killed. Their sentence would begin at that time. If they could be bestowed with "mob" status when sentenced they would in effect be fugitives, and everyone (including all town guards etc) would hunt them down. In addition I suspect that marking them as a "mob" would stop them from advancing or getting any new stuff (since they wouldnt be able to attack any normal mobs) until they had completed their sentence. They might even come and hand themselves in, so they can keep playing.

I have no doubt people would have alot of fun hunting down fugitive players in order to begin their sentences.

Do you see the little button at the bottom right of your post called "Edit"?

There is no need to double-post.

@Eragon, of course the system can be abused in that way. Any systeam can be abused. For reference, an average sentence should be 10 minutes or so. If you are jailed for longer   consider why you are in there (you will probably be told). If you think it is unreasonable, make a complaint to  complaints_department. But try to think objectively because frivolous complaints will not be received sympathetically. Alternatively, don't whine, simply escape. Jail is a game punishment after all.

There are jails in GH, Sh, and Sg. Players automatically go to the appropriate one.

@MrHeckles,  You're thinking of prison. That's all planned but it'll be a while yet... ;)

Going to jail seems to be near to a temporarily character ban:
Nor can you fight, neither can you trade with that char.
You can listen to shout and give comments.

That holds for a temp char ban too:
You cannot fight and trade with that char, but you can log in with another alt and listen to shout or give comments.

Very interestingly that you think that sending someone to jail is a 'small' punishment related to violations of the community standards only and is not intended for violation of the game rules.

Even a kick is a smaller punishment than jailing since it is only about a minute (if the info for the client commands are right).

Then why do people ask to be jailed over and over again and then get very happy when that request is fulfilled? No-one asks to be banned (ok, a few times people do).

I think actually the reasons are a little complicated. TBH I'm a bit surprised, but going to jail is often seen as the height of entertainment.

And if standing in a small room for 10 minutes doesn't do it for you, you can try to escape or chat with the guard (he'll chat with you regardless).

Yeah... ppl are asking for it, right... and I don't know about the escape part.

I can remember a lot of ppl asking for beeing kicked, when that feature came up.

If it is not only ment for ppl that are asking for it as funny part of the game but even for a punishment for violating community standards:
Is it a punishment or is it fun for those ppl?
And is it ment as punishment, or is it ment as fun in that case?

Maybe it can be both, leading ppl to better behaviour, who knows.

I can image that you are investing a lot of time in scripting, smacky, so I like to note that that are just some thoughts... not ment to bee some dumb criticism.
And obviously it is fun for many ppl, so it is nice in the entertaining way.

No definitely not taken as dumb criticism.

My ego is so huge that I like it when anyone comments on stuff I do in anyway at all. :D

Anyway, yeah it is meant to be both -- 'punishtainment' as I said above.

Quite likely there is an element of new = fun to it, and no doubt that will pass. But equally I hope to keep adding to it -- I had a nifty idea while watching the Stooges on TV just now, which I'll test tomorrow -- and indeed adding new forms of 'punishtainment'. So the novelty factor should continue for a while.

In fact this is probably a big reason for the strange popularity -- jail is probably one of the most interactive aspects of the game ATM.

And yes, the majority of perps ask to be put there, however for the ones that are locked up as punishment I have found it to be surprisingly (if not 100%) successful at resolving problems.

Mybe changing the respawn point of a char so that they are respawned in an almost impossible and difficult area for them.

Ok, thanks to meatmandann I was able to try it a bit myself.

Actually fun if asked for it.

And different from a temp char ban since you can escape, making my comment related to that senseless.

Will get interesting when the guard actually tells you something about the crime you have done, i.e. teaches you community standards.
So some ppl will get familiar with them in a way that attains them better than the hard way other players may have teached them.

Nice idea. And a wide field for scripting :).

@Blud: Well that's not actually jailing is it? :) If Iwant to summon someone to the raas I can do that, but it's not very interesting (especially now that your demise isn't broadcast to everyone). Resetting the spawn point is just mean. Being jailed isn't meant to screw up your game. It's meant to add to it but in a way that (when used as punishment) refocusses your attention by preventing your annoying behaviour (ie, theft).

@Blue: Well it shouldn't be preachy. The jailers couldn't care less why you're there. They just do their job (for the most part :)). If you're in for being bad chances are you'l'l already know what you did, either because it's very obvious or there were complaints on shout, etc. And you are likely to get a visit from an admin.

jailing is great for thieves or ks'er and really when they steel a donation item, it prevents them from hideing it within a alt or shoping it for a few silver real quick until it can be resoulved

Nice the idea of jail and people re spawning there after having been killed......and so people trying to kill fugitives so as to go to jail and become fugitive themselves.....It could work out pretty good.....:P
