OK I'll break your posting monopoly.

I really like the page of trees you posted a few ago. I don't like the screen above.

I think it's lack of detail. The plants above look blobby and not part of their surroundings.

Also IIRC when I did the LOS rewrite thing a few years ago I made it sqo some objects, such as trees, could partially/fully block LOS. This ,ade walking through a forest much more atmospheric (IMO) and dangerous (mobs could appear/disappear suddenly around a blind corner). I see no sign of this in your vid. Why not?

Hey Blue whats crackin, thanks for sharing this help a lot with design.  These are scaled up really big compared to our normal arches.  I'm using Peoples client which has a much larger resolution but still needs work.

Edit, in fact all these arches you see here have been scaled up.

Yeah, the new client is still a work in progress. ATM there is no support for lighting (which AFAIK is how the obstructsview works) so it should look roughly the same when it's closer to finished.

Something I've considered is a way of doing smoother/dynamic lighting. At the very least, finding a way to smooth transitions between different light levels so it's not perfectly blocky. IIRC you did something fancy with lighting a long time ago that never made it to release so if you have any tips I'd appreciate it.

Joe, I like the UI designs you've proposed but I'm not sure I like the "background image". Part of this is because I plan to utilize the "fog of war" design of the past. So beyond the normal 17x17 grid, any tiles the player has previously seen while they've been on this mapset will be rendered as they were last seen and with some kind of shader effect to let the player know "what they remember" that area looking like.

See something like:

But extended out further than the 17x17 grid.

Tree update, almost there...Once done I'll go thru and add finishing touches, then make them into arches and add them to a new folder in streams.

Pretty much finishing up with the trees and then it's on to the shorter vegetation.  They can be found in \streams\joes_high_res_graphics

New palm tree graphics.

Testing some new plants and had to take a screen shot cuz it looked cool.

Testing some tall grass, possibly planning to do something similar with the shallow water.

So my plan is to animate the plants, trees, water, and possibly the grass with a gentle breeze.  But I wonder also if there is a way that players can trigger another anim.  Such as running thru tall grass would cause it to rustle, or walking on a plant causes it to twitch or bend.

I haven't played around with triggers but maybe this is too much work, or doesn't work like that?  Or maybe nothing of the kind is even implemented yet.

Anims are pretty basic ATM. Partly because they (still) are kept track of serverside.

That means more work is done by server code and more BW is used sending all this info to every client.

Both problems go away when we do the work clientside. IIRC MT/Gecko/Alderan already wrote the client code 12+ years ago. But this is Daimonin so we still do it the old way...

As often I have a local server in which I rewrote the anim code to work faster and do more (but still the code is on the wrong side).

So I've made some sexy water anim for us.  It's hard to see from just one arch but these are seamless and very closely emulate the animation from the above post.  (except mine are better) ::)

This arch anim gives it that fantastic look of light reflecting from the bottom of the lake, very cool.  Thanks for teaching me how to do this spriteknights.com!  I'll be out of town until this weekend, when I get back hopefully I can finish up the animated shorelines.  Hope to see it active soon *hint hint *@_people_   ;)

This vid shows better quality, here is the arch blown up pretty big.

Indeed.  Finished up the rest of the rocks, thought I was done but there is more in stones and cave folder.  ::)
Here I show the second batch of rocks:
