Author Topic:  Some minor corrections concerning the w32_start_server.bat...  (Read 4245 times)

argh

Hi All,

I have corrected the following really minor issues:

1. I have replaced
Code: [Select]
if not exist arch\archetypes (
  w32_collect_arches.bat
)
by
Code: [Select]
if not exist arch\archetypes call w32_collect_arches.bat
I have removed the parenthesis since it doesn't work under windows 98 (and the w32_collect_arches.bat is always run).
I have added the call statement before w32_collect_arches.bat (without a call statement a called batch will never return to its caller).

2. I don't know if many are still using Windows 98; the batch files won't run when the end of lines is a LF (0x0A) rather than a CRLF (0x0D 0x0A).

To fix this problem, open the batch files with wordpad and just save them.

Thanks. I wrote that on linux (don't use Windows). I'll include those changes in the next mapmaker release.

You may be surprised to hear that quite a few people are still using Windows 98. Looking at the stats for visitors to my website this year, I have even had visitors using Windows 95 and ... wait for it ... Windows 3.x!

And some people are still using Internet Explorer 2.x  :)

Actually, more than are using Windows 98, apparently. My stats may not be representative, but for the record they are as follows (ordered by distinct visitors). Not sure what the 'Others' stat represents.

Other must be some kind of windows hybrid which has forged itself on the web into the 1 thing microsoft canot create.  Working windows. dun dun duuuun. Who is that strange masked operating system? Is it windows 98? nope. Is it windows Vista Uh Ur. Nope its Superwindows.   Look how he works without crashing, see how he seamlessly communicates, gasp at his minimal use of memory.

probably windows 7 and as far as evilasa's comment on xp being the last properly working OS that microsoft has come out with maybe you should give it a try. if you hurry you can still try a RC of it i believe then decide if you wish to purchase a license for it. its my new favorite OS (been using xp pro for many years) tried vista its rubbish. windows 7 seems to correct all the vista issues and be a quick smooth running OS.

It's that good? Maybe I will try it...I'll be looking for a new PC in the next year or so, and I need to try a few OS's out and find something I can really use and abuse. So far I'm interested in Linux but I've not really used it, Vista holds no interest for me cos I;ve heard nothing but bad reports, W7 I don't really know anyone who uses it yet. I might well go for a Windows based OS though, knowing that Knoppix is available should I choose to run with Linux aswell :-)

probably windows 7
Unlikely, as I doubt whether 62% of visitors over the last year have been using Windows 7 :) I plan to upgrade after first getting a 1TB USB drive and backing everything up ;) Then there's all the hassle of reinstalling all my apps and making sure I've got the product keys somewhere...

Maybe I'll just do an upgrade instead of a fresh install - less gain but definitely less pain.

Finally fixed both issues for the next mapmaker release. :)

Almost a shame Win98 support is on its way out I suspect...
