Hello

Before you begin, please read the instructions below. The link to the map maker package is down there too.

Map Wizards

In Daimonin, a map maker now has a lot more (and better) options to
create maps -- whole map sets with complex scripts and story lines.

Because good map making is an art and not without complexity, we
wanted to open a new forum part which is exclusive for map making,
editor use and scripting; all of which needed to make good maps.

At the same time we introduced our "Daimonin Map Wizard" system.
When YOU have done or are developing a good map set, you can
add it in many ways to the game, project, or our game server. You will become a map wizard, someone who is CREATING parts of the world of
Daimonin.

Beside all the fame and a lot of fun, there is more to earn for you.

- When your mapset is accepted for the official maps you will get
3 free picks from the donation shop
- We will have contests where player vote for the best map set.
the winner will get free picks from the shop too
- You will become a dev team member
- As a map wizard you will later have special control about your maps (its
technically not done ATM). For instance, you can host life quests
  and other things
- If premium accounts are ever introduced, you will automatically
  become a premium member
- People will love you

So, how to become a map wizard?

1.) Download the latest map maker package.
ATM its our BETA 4 preview package. THAT WILL CHANGE
DEPENDING ON OUR STATE OF DEVELOPMENT.
2.) Read about map making here, learn it, and make them
3.) Show them to us!

YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE MAP MAKER PACKAGE HERE:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/daimonin/daimonin_mapmaker.zip?download

How to use the map maker package

1.) Download it!
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/daimonin/daimonin_mapmaker.zip?download

2.) Unzip it

3.) Read the README_FIRST.txt inside the main folder of the package

4.) Use the w32_start_xxx.bat files under Windows. Compile when under
     Linux

5.) Install java when needed and start reading the stuff in /doc

How to send us maps

Zip the maps, attach them to an email and write a short description.
Send it to maps****.net

We will examine them and do some testing to ensure they won't crash
our test server too badly.

If they are good, we will include them.
If not, we will tell you what's wrong.

How to add maps to Daimonin

We won't store the advanced maps in our CVS anymore. They are not
needed for our game engine AND they now include complex
quests and tricks. We need to ensure people don't destroy the fun
by spoiling the map source itself.

In the first part of development, there is generally not much to show
other than layout. Layout means landscape and stuff, not filled with the
tricky things and/or maps and quests.

In that stage of your map set development, you should post screen shots
of the maps inside the editor to our "Map Sets" forum where people
show their current work.

Alternatively, you can send your maps to maps****.net for a
deeper look and some developer response.

When your mapset is in the stage of testing and playable (there is a
server inside the map maker package, which allows you to test
play the maps at home) for more people, you should send us the
maps and we will put them on the test server. You will get access
to the server later as well.

People will log in to that server and tell you and us their experience.
Possible bugs and holes will be revealed too. That's normal and part
of developing.

How to learn map making, getting help, and sharing experience

Use this forum for asking questions about map making.
Read also the quest & scripting forum.

Log on to the IRC by clicking Daimonin Chat and ask us some questions.

In the next days and weeks, we will add tutorials for map making and
links to our wiki where the technical information is stored.

These particular forums are done for talking about this technical stuff,
they're the place to go for help with correct use and how things can be
done.

Let the fun start!

So, has anyone ever seen napolean dynamite?  It just reminds me of

"Vote for Pedro; and all your wildest dreams will come true!"

Except its... "Make Maps; and people will Love you."

Also reminds me of "Build it, and they will come."

I'm gonna do this, but I have to ask, can I just make anything as long as it is good? I mean, what if I go to great pains to make a new city, but the you say it doesn't fit into the game's plot?

Just asking

EDIT: Forgot about my terrible connection. This could take a few days to download. I'll try to.

dwarrior: There really isn't a plot to the world... if you know what i mean ;)

So make a map, and a plot to go with it... unless its some sort of space oddesy, or odd thing like that, and its good and useful, it'll probably draw great consideration ATLEAST.

Ok it seams to me first that it does not need to be specifically plot related as there is an "unofficial" folder or other wise known as "player map's" folder.  If it doesn't fit the plot then you will be able to access approved maps through a special room called something similar.  Naturally being creative is going to play into the score so...ok I am trying to win as well LOL

That "unofficial" folder is for development only.

Reason is simple: We don't want accidently, when we update the REAL server
from cvs, that there are maps connected which are in work.

The "lobby" is only enabled in the map maker package.
On normal servers is unreachable.

Some maps are not included so people can't spoil quests.
