Yeah you both make good points. I guess I'm thinking of what sort of banner would make *me* think 'ooh, that's a professional looking job -- must have a closer look'.
But whatever gets the several people on the Internet who aren't me clicking...
movement on a page will draw the eye smacky- which is what I had in mind. I'm not to hot on it either as far as design goes but I think it definitely serves as an attention getter?
Whatever the contest will bring: I like to test out such a "wild" banner on some selected vote sites.
I find it an interesting experiment how such a extrem eye catcher works compared to a normal one. I have first to check how i can setup the right tracking with google analytics and/or local web stats.
