I like the idea behind it all, even if it does mean the game is in permanent beta, haha.

I want to know, from a player perspective, why should I choose this game over the next?

Before I download anything, I like to know what I am getting into, I like to research into a game, via the website and forums and so forth. The main pitch here seems to be the development itself and how open it is, and that rocks, no other game offers that. The question remains though, what exactly is being modded? If I want to try my hand at map editing or maybe do some artwork, what tools are available to me and what are their features? If I just wanna play, what should I expect from the gameplay?

I really think these things would best be answered on the main page of the website, but I'm willing to receive the answers here. :D

well ill try an answer some of these questions for you i've been playing for about 1 month now.  the game just playing is fun depending on what kind of games you like to play.  the community is great and helpful most the vol's and gm's i've talked to ingame and out of game have been a great help.  oh and they have special maps for the holidays you missed halloween but in a week or so we will have the winter event maps opening wich offers us some really kool weapons.  also for game play at the moment there are very few quests but there are more coming in the next beta wich should be out soon lots of new maps with new dungeons and areas to explore.

there is a map editor program you can download i myself have been playing around with it lately theres alot of things ya can do with it just takes time to learn it all lolz.  if your really interested in doing things like artwork and map making you can join the appropriate team and they will help teach you all you need to know the community is really helpful and will do there best to explain to you what ever ya need answered as best as they can.
heck they even dumb it down if they have to for people like me who don't understand computer coding and what not.

i do hope to see ya in game this game is really fun  >:D

I've been playing a bit longer, playing many other games too. I couldn't give a better description than killall559's :D
Would like you to join us in-game on both the official and the development server ;)

Thanks for the responses, I've played some on the official server and the game does seem pretty cool so far. Got a bit confused here and there with a few things but the others in the community in-game were a HUGE help, much friendlier than in most games I have played.

Funny thing, I had forgotten I had actually checked this game out a few years back, then I logged into my old dwarf I had made back then (I think beta 3 or something). He was still level one and hadn't even started doing the Merceneries Guild quests. Got him up to five after a few hours, and died probably a thousand times, but it made it that much sweeter when I finally conquered that dungeon and completed that quest, MWAHAHA!!!

Character name is same as this: Omegasage

I have dabbled a bit wiht both map making and 3D artwork in the past, the mapmaking mostly just kinda goofing around with Warcraft 3 and Starcraft's map editor. The 3D stuff was goofing around with a demo Rhino. I loved it, but didn't have adequate direction or anything for it and it just kinda went stagnant without anything to work on with it. xD I later played around a bit with google's 3D editor, but same deal, lack of direction and stuff to do with it. Plus it was a really annoying downgrade from Rhino. >.< I'd gladly get back into it, regardless of what I am forced to work with (I'll make it work) if I can get someone to help me with the whole direction issue. Need stuff to do or I'll just kind drift away again. -.-

Leveling is usually what most people would say about what to do in general. but since you have skills that commoners (heh, like me) dont have you should talk to the Map wizards or even polyveg to see if you can help with 3d stuff. Its nice to see new people coming around (or in this case, back) to Daimonin.

Really with the mapmaking you make maps that you would wanna play on :D like whatever YOU want, so direction there is probably minimal. If you need Direction talk to Polyveg (i think) he could really use some 3d help.... Not sure though xD

There are several guides for mapping both on the wiki and on the mappers board. As drunkmonkey said, talk to Polyveg about the client3d. He's currently reworking the tile engine so some older computers like mine can run it :D
