I'll be shutting down the server in a few minutes but only for an hour or so.

When it comes back I'll tell you more. ;)

Ooh, my client's outdated. Something grand's bound to be afoot!

It's back.

As Falciron found out the current Win bin client (206) will no longer connect, so you need the latest client (207).

Currently there is no Win bin for this so either you have to compile your own from SVN or wait.

Anyway, once connected you will find that your existing account is now empty of players. However, the names of your B4 characters are now there and password protected for you.

So log in to (or create) an account. It would be best to create one with the same name as you have on the site, but this is not necessary while game and site accounts remain separate.

Now 'C'reate a new player. Currently you have fixed stats, but you can choose race, gender, and weapon skill.

Choose a 'N'ame. If this is a B4 character you will then be asked for a Reclaim Password. This is just the old password used to login to a B4 server.

If you know this, which hopefully means the character is yours, type it in and press RETURN.

Your account will now be updated with a player of that name. You, and only you (unless you delete that player) can now connect as normal. Noone else can reclaim this name.

Now this needs testing before the real excitement can begin, so off you go... ;)

Character reclaim worked fine, but as soon as one of my characters spoke to Fanrir ('t'), the client crashed. (This is repeatable.)

Things can seem a bit confusing here, so I will teach you some basics if you'd like. It is quite easy. You'll be done in just a few minutes.

I have a number of ^quests^ for you to do. You'll be helping me and you'll be helping yourself.

`Hint -- Talking to NPCs (1)`

~NPCs~ are non-player characters, like me. I am an NPC. As a rule NPCs are friendly to you, in that they don't actually attack you. Of course, that doesn't mean they all necessarily like you!

Most NPCs have something to say. You can begin a conversation by saying 'hello' to them. There are three steps to talking to an NPC:

|(1)| target an NPC -- do this by pressing ~S~ (this will actually cycle through all visible NPCs so you might need to repeat this step several times to get the right one);

|(2)| stand near to the NPC -- each NPC has it's own sensing range (usually 6 squares distance) and he or she must be in line of sight; and

|(3)| talk to the NPC -- do this by pressing ~T~.

I guess you did this to talk to me, so lets tell you something you might not know.

`Hint -- Talking to NPCs (2)`

Once you are talking to an NPC a window like this one will show what he or she is saying. You will often see highlighted text.

Gold text is used for various titles.

Green and yellow are just for emphasis. Think of ~green as italics~ and |yellow as bold|.

There is also hypertext which you can select and  'say'. Doing so will take you further into the conversation. Hypertext is not highlighted in the main window, but is shown in a side-panel. There are three ways to 'say' hypertext:

|(1)| click on it with your mouse;

|(2)| cycle through all available hypertext with ~TAB~ (and ~sTAB~ to go the other way) then press ~RETURN~ when you have the one you want (it will be purple);

|(3)| press ~BACKSPACE~ and type the word in.

TABbing through hypertext or hovernig over it with the mouse) will also reposition the viewable window so that you can see the context of the word you have selected.

Try selecting and 'saying' the hypertext on this page."><at="Quest"c="Quest">

Well the problem is your client isn't finding the bitmaps (or some of the newer sounds). So I suspect this is a bad build at your end.

Try a completely new install to a different location.

Reclaim works for me. Now I'll see if I can break it. :)

Nope, can't break it by normal means. If you delete a reclaimed character, then the name is up for anyone to grab, but I guess that's your fault for deleting it in the first place.

I just had to update the stuff in skins/subred. OK now! Mea culpa.

 The scroll bar on Fanrir's dialog doesn't work (I can't click on it and drag it down), and the hotspot for the double down-arrow is only in a small part of the square. Page down/page up works (big distance as you'd expect), but arrow down/up (incremental scroll) doesn't do anything.

Maybe this is something still being worked on, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Edit: Clicking in the non-bar area of the scroll bar should do a page down/up - it doesn't. Arrow key down/up should do the same as clicking on the double down/up arrows at the ends of the scroll bar - as I said above they have no effect.

Tab seems to be toggling between two states - not sure what.

@_People_: Yup, once reclaimed it's just a player like any other. So when you delete it anyone else can create that same name. Perhaps when game and site accounts are linked we should make a restriction that only that account can have the same name for a player.

@Grommit: No, mouse scrolling in the NPC GUI doesn't work. It's non-critical (because there are keyb options and clicking hypertext in the panel should also scroll the main window and IIRC the mouse wheel does work). When I finish my textwindow upgrade, there's code in that I can use to fix scrolling in the NPC GUI too.

EDIT: To reply to your tricksy editing: up/down arrows control the currently selected icon (which has always been the case) and IIRC the current link too. TAB does hypertext (and shift TAB to go backwards).

The 1-9 keys select the first 9 links and - and = select the left and right buttons.

You can also do all this from the keypad: KP1-KP9 for the links, KP* and KP/ for the hypertext, KP- and KP+ for the previous/next icon/link, and KP0 and KP. for the buttons.

Oh yes. the window scrolls as you select icons/links too.

The scroll keys are PgUp/PgDn to scroll by a page, Ins/Del to scroll by a line (I think, try it anyway), Home/End to go right to the top/bottom, and SPACE to go down a page or back to the top if you're at the bottom.

I just did. Use TortoiseSVN to checkout the client package from SF.

https://daimonin.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/daimonin/trunk

Use Visual C++ or some other compiler program for windows to compile daimonin.exe.

Connect.

Or wait for Smacky to release the package.

EDIT: Append /trunk to URL -- don't need the full repository -- Smacky
