Its been a while (ages in fact), but thought it was about time I checked in to see what was going on with Daimonin???

How is B5 coming ... is there any news (I'm sure there is but I haven't read all 3,000 unread posts since my last visit!!) on when B5 might go live???

Anything else new in the project in the past few months???

Hi Torch,

Are you here for a while now?

B5 is, depending on your POV, 2 weeks away (you're a player only) or here already but in development (you're a dev/interested ini development).

There are already some significant changes and improvements but many more to come in the next 2 weeks.

From your perspective, some really good news is that MWs like Evilasa and Mizza have started using the new mobs which should eventually lead to  development of the arches (and Ragnor has implemented a feature in Gridarta I need to develop/use the new arches -- but I haven't tested it yet).

WB TW.

On that note TW, the new mobs look fantastic, and any more you could make would be brilliant, providing you have the time/motivation/use of a PC/whatever else you need.

Thanks evilasa ... I think I have all those things, but what I don't have is knowledge!  I've forgotten it all ... :(

Anyway, @Smacky: Yes, I think I am!  In July 2008 I took a step back due to volunteer work - I'm still running the group, but having made it through my first year now, I know what I'm doing and things are much calmer.  The other day I realised I was bored ... wondering what to do ... and thought about Daimonin!

My first task is to upload all my images to my Gallery and after that ... ???

I'm not going to get back into mob work with Blender for the time being - there's a lot of investment needed from me to learn how to do it all over again, and besides - we have a good bunch of new mobs already!  Not much use making more if they never see the light of day ... which means they need to be added to maps (good news that evil and mizza - new to me - are using them already).

So I think I'll do some mapping ... I had some stuff in development (Crystal Caves) so might see what I can do with those.  Bit I might start off even simpler than that; are there any existing wilderness areas that could do with some small colonies of beetles and other mobs added to provide interest/variation???  Let me know - that should be good to remind me how SVN and all the rest of it works.

And finally ... 2 weeks before b5?  I would have hoped it was sooner, but as ever, down to the amount of resource available to the project, which is always limited.  I still feel that, as long as there are no serious bugs on the B5 dev server then B5 should just be rolled out to production, wipe all the player files and see what happens!  The active player population seems pretty small at the moment, and I'm sure there are many players out there waiting for the wipe/B5 ...

Of course, if there are still major issues, then fine! :-)

Anyway - good to be back!

Hi Torch, good to see you around again. Uploading your images to gallery was long awaited :) (btw, grizzly_bear.gif doesnt show up, filename error?)
If you think of something to do now, I had in mind for some time doing some work for 3D client. I really hope this path of development will be back on tracks one day. From what I've read, 3d client has player model, gui graphics and floors... (I wasnt able to run 3d client properly yet, so there is maybe more).
I found that there is a plugin for Blender that can export meshes along with textures, skeletons and animations directly to ogre3d format. With that, I wanted to start working on simple things first, walls, trees, windows etc (basic construction stuff).
2x but:
-there is a lot of such objects = a lot of work = help wanted!
-I cant find mesh viewer that will read meshes in ogre 1.4 format (thats what plugin exports), I dont even know what version 3d client is using.

As usual, I wander off the subject :) Hi again :)

I agree LG ... this would be a good topic of development.  But, I think that's a bit advanced for me at the moment, and I also think we are better off getting B5 going before we worry about the 3D client for the moment.  As you say, there is masses or work needed to convert every graphic from 2D to 3D - the graphic artists team would need to be 10x bigger!!!

(Grizzly Bear.gif seems OK to me - anyone else having problems?)

Now would be an excellent time to offer some gfx work with client3d as Polyveg is active ATM (he roped me in this evening). Post to the client 3D board and I'm sure he'll come up with lots to do.

Really, B5 (ie, the server) is more about code so artists won't be able to do much right now. They'll be needed again in B6 though. But for now at least you'll probably find much more interesting for you and useful for the project work with client3d.

I will get into the 3D stuff ... but not just for a while - I would like to start back again a bit smaller for the time being, before I get back into heavy Blender stuff.

@Smacky - a bit confused - where are all your remodelled Cloud Mountain / Human Plane maps that I remember you were working on?  I remember I modelled my Farm / Roc's Lair around your maps ...

Still only local. That stuff is scheduled for B6 (being content). B5 is code (mostly).

I've almost got SENTInce done now. I'll put that on dev, probably next week, which will fill a major requirement of the remodelled human plane.
