A chess tournament will start on 21st March, 2010 at UTC 00:01.
The rules are simple. You pick up a chess piece with 'g' and drop it at the desired place with 'd'. You will have to moderate on your own as not many dev team members can be present online for the whole time. It is highly recommended that you should take a screenshot of every move you or your opponent make to avoid any inconvenience caused by disputes.
There are two discard piles on opposite sides of the board. We advise players to discard their pieces there after they are killed.
We request players to put the pieces back where they were after they finish their game. We also request that no chess piece should be taken by player outside the event. Please help us in helping you and follow the guidelines.
We do not have arches of chess pieces as b4 has reached its limit for new arches so we are using non-conventional chess pieces. They are as follows:
Rook: Shield.
Knight: Sword.
Bishop: Wand.
Queen: Scepter.
King: Armour.
Pawns: Boots.
Extra pieces for promotion of pawns can be taken from an unused field or found on chess_0000 (only map safe for reset) by a DM.
The prizes are on display... they are currently un-identified so that novelty should be present while distribution of prizes.
The winner will get a special crown ( which is unique ) and the runner-up will get a ring (which is also unique).
The prizes will be provided by Ankit later in the game after the tournament has finished.
We sincerely hope that you like this event and enrol yourself to join the chess tournament.
Good luck and have fun.
Everyone has a potential winner in them.
The tournament was way past midnight for Europeans which is why I wasn't there. From my in-game experience I can tell most European people are online on Saturday from 18:00 to (when it's been fun) 01:00 CET, which is GMT+1. I received requests for games such as raas races and I plan to create new dungeons during the Summer Holiday (for either B4 or B5, whichever will be official by then) :) For now we can still enjoy Chess Plaza on our own with our own prizes, until next weekend.

Sorry, Mizza has just reminded me that 0h UTC is 1am GMT, didnt realise the tournament wasn't aimed at Europeans. How about at weekends doing something to fit in with the two main area's for users (USA and Europe), say about 9-11pm GMT 4-6pm (east cost) 1-3pm (west coast). Some of us have RL commitments.
I was on from 7.30 pm until nearly 1 am GMT and no sign of it or its organiser, i was under the impression it was to start at midnight. Next time i will stay no for full 24hrs to make sure i dont miss an event
umm the tourney is in the finals right now
No tournament? Just registering my disappontment with this.
